Speaker and topic change for Monday’s Moore Honorary Lecture at LC State

LEWISTON, Idaho – Because of a family situation, the featured speaker and topic for the third annual Lewis-Clark State College Moore Honorary Lecture has changed for Monday’s event.

Leif Hoffmann, an associate professor of political science at LC State, will discuss Brexit at noon on Monday, Oct. 28,  in Room 100 of Meriwether Lewis Hall. Brexit is the scheduled withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, which was originally scheduled to take place on Halloween, but that now seems unlikely. Hoffmann will discuss the European Union and Brexit, and also put Brexit into context of the classic political science conceptualizations of arguments and explanations that are made up by the “Three I’s”: Interests, Institutions, and Ideas.

Originally, Steve Shaw, a political science professor at Northwest Nazarene University, was scheduled to discuss “Hate, Harassment and Human Rights in Idaho,” but emailed Hoffmann on Thursday to notify him of a family situation and that he would not be able to attend.

The Moore Honorary Lecture honors former LC State political science professor Richard Moore and his contributions to Lewis-Clark State. Moore worked at LCSC for 27 years, 1978-2005, when he retired. He mentored several students and chaired the Faculty Senate and Faculty Association twice, the Social Sciences Division for eight years, and was interim chair for the Nursing and Health Sciences Division. He also served as acting dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.

The lecture is sponsored by the LCSC Social Sciences Division and by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council.
