LEWISTON, Idaho – An artist reception to celebrate the opening of three art exhibits at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at 5:30 p.m. at the Center, located at 415 Main St. in Lewiston. The reception is free and open to the public.
The Idaho Commission on the Arts Fellowship Exhibit, the Body Beautiful Exhibit, and the Rethink Downtown Exhibit all open on Friday and run through March 23.
The ICA Fellowship Exhibit features the work of five Idaho artists who received Fellowships and two who received honorable mention honors from the ICA Commission in 2018. The artists, who were chosen by a peer review panel, are Anika Smulovitz and Anna Webb of Boise, Sarah Bird and Pamela DeTuncq of Hailey, Brian Hochstrat of Midvale, Lonnie Hutson of Deary, and Nishiki Sugawara-Beda of Moscow.
The Body Beautiful Exhibit celebrates all human body types, races, genders, abilities and disabilities. The exhibit examines body size and how people judge others based on the size of their body and the way that media and society often criticizes the human form. The artists for this exhibit include Jen Fuller of Portland, Jennifer Opdahl, Liz Taylor, and Linda Scott of Lewiston, and Amy Pence-Brown, Chad Estes and Cassandra Schiffler of Boise.
The Rethink Downtown exhibit was created as part of the Lewiston Downtown Master Plan, directed by Beautiful Downtown Lewiston and an Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. BDL issued a call for artists to lead citizen engagement for creative place-making. Five artists from the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley are featured in the exhibit with artwork centered on themes of downtown Lewiston’s future sense of community, vitality, and environment. Community members who view the exhibit will be asked to provide feedback via a survey during the exhibit, which will inform the development of the Master Plan for Downtown Lewiston. The five artists are Patrick Brown-Hayes, Kelsey Grafton, Noah Kroese, Rob McKirdie, and Susan Pettit.
The exhibit is brought to the community through grant funding from ARTSIdaho and US Bank.
