LEWISTON, Idaho – Five speakers will cover a variety of topics during Lewis-Clark State College’s IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) spring semester seminar series that kicks off Jan. 24 and runs through March 1.
The INBRE program is designed to provide greater research opportunities for faculty and staff at colleges and universities in Idaho. LCSC has been a program participant since 2004 and has used funding to support curriculum development, faculty and student research, and acquisition of modern instruments.
The spring series focuses on bringing scientists to LCSC who use bioinformatics or computational methods in their research.
All of the seminars are free and open to the public.
Here is a breakdown of the series.
- Jan. 24 – Sara Del Valley of the Los Alamos National Laboratory will speak on “Real-time Heterogeneous Data to Guide Infectious Disease Forecasting Models.” Noon, Sacajawea Hall Room 208.
- Feb. 11 – Eimear Kenny of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai will speak on “Human History and Health Through the Lens of Genetics.” Noon, Sacajawea Hall Room 115.
- Feb. 15 – Jan Medlock of Oregon State University will speak on “Research areas: Mathematical epidemiology and evolution of infectious diseases.” 11:10 a.m., Meriwether-Lewis Hall Room 100.
- Feb. 22 – Michael Pfrender of the University of Notre Dame will speak on “Research areas: Evolutionary and ecological genomics.” Noon, Sacajawea Hall Room 115.
- March 1 – Kelly Harris of the University of Washington will speak on “Rapid evolution of mutational processes in humans, apes, and across the tree of life.” Noon, Sacajawea Hall Room 115.
