Northwest Children's Home kids sharing their digital art, stories at CAH exhibit

The LCSC Center for Arts & History (CAH) is presenting "…being Expressive: giving voice."
The unique exhibit provides a distinct perspective of hope, friendship, and perseverance for the resident youth of the Northwest Children's Home. The closing reception and lecture by Erika Allen, Development Director at the Northwest Children's Home, takes place Friday, September 13, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Allen's lecture begins at 6:00 pm.
"…being Expressive: giving voice" is an ongoing project that provides Northwest Children's Home residents with the opportunity to create a digital story of their past experiences, aspirations, and day to day life. In an effort to provide the children with a safe space to self-express, the young artists are provided with the tools to develop digital stories through the use of personal voice recordings, photography, and drawings. Young artists, who vary between the ages of 5-17 years of age, reside at Northwest Children’s Home to receive residential treatment focused on healing from childhood trauma.
Established in 1908, Northwest Children's Home is the longest running residential treatment facility geared towards children ages 5-17 in Idaho. With campuses in Lewiston and Nampa, Northwest Children's Home has the capacity to serve up to 120 children through two residential campuses and one accredited K-12 school.
Erika Allen graduated with a M.S. in Leadership & Management from the University of Laverne, with a non-profit emphasis. She received her B.A. from UCLA. Allen has worked in the violence prevention field for 10 years as a victim advocate, education & outreach coordinator, and before coming to the Northwest Children's Home, as Project Director/Grant Administrator of the Violence Prevention Program at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
"…being Expressive: giving voice" is brought to the LCSC Center for Arts & History through underwriting from the Northwest Children’s Home. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Gallery admission is free, but donations are welcome.
