LCSC plans Homecoming activities for Oct. 16-22

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College will hold its third annual modern day Homecoming on Oct. 16-22 with several campus and athletic events highlighting the week.

All events are open to the public and are free of charge unless otherwise noted. Anyone planning to attend one or more event is asked to register by clicking on the “register here” red tab in the upper right corner of the webpage. During the online registration, there is the opportunity to purchase LCSC Homecoming T-shirts for $5 apiece.

During the week, the LCSC Alumni Association will hold a Warrior Flag Find for current students. Flags will be hidden on campus and once found, the flags can be returned to the alumni office to exchange for an LC 1/4 zip Nike jacket. Daily winners will also compete on Oct. 21 for a chance to win a grand prize. Clues to find the flags will be posted on the LCSC Alumni Facebook page and on its Instagram page (lcscalumni) at 9 a.m. each day.

There will be clothing spirit days on campus during Oct. 18-20. Post photos on Instagram with #NoPlaceLikeLC to win prizes. The themes are: Wednesday: Red Day. Thursday: Blue Day. Friday: LCSC Spirit Day.

The Alumni Association will hold its Alumni Awards Celebration to kick off public events on Thursday, Oct. 19. The event will be held at the Clarkston Golf and Country Club, located at 1676 Elm St. in Clarkston, Wash. A social opens the event at 6 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.

Festivities get rolling on Oct. 20 at noon with a Picnic with the President on the lawn on the north side of the Student Union Building (if rain, event will move inside the SUB). Enjoy a free barbecue with LCSC President J. Anthony (Tony) Fernandez. An all-campus photo open to all current LCSC administration, faculty, staff and students will follow at 12:45-1 p.m. at SUB Solarium. All are asked to be there at 12:45 so they can be lined up.

Kickball games will follow at 1:15 p.m. on the Library lawn that will pit students against the LCSC faculty and staff. Depending on the number of teams formed, games could continue throughout the afternoon.

Campus tours guided by current students will begin at 4:30 p.m. Anyone wanting to go on the tour is asked to meet in front of the President’s House across the street from the Administration Building, on the southeast corner of 8th Avenue and 6th Street.

Also at the President’s House at 4:30 p.m. will be the Warrior Warm Up. The event will be in the backyard and will feature live music by The Seven Devils as well as some prize giveaways.

The LCSC women’s volleyball team will play host to Carroll College at 7 p.m. in the Activity Center. The match will have a Dig Pink Night theme and fans are asked to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.

The day wraps up with the Lip Sync Battle at 8:30-9:30 p.m. in the Silverthorne Theatre. The first 20 acts to register before Oct. 18 will be in the competition. Songs are limited to 90 seconds. A panel of judges will pick the top two individuals and top group winners. To register, contact Debbie Kolstad at dqkolstad@lcsc.edu.

On Saturday, Oct. 21, the activities begin at 10 a.m. with an International Student Alumni brunch at the Williams Conference Center. International alums will also have an Alumni Social at 4 p.m. at the home of Kathy Grussing in Juliaetta.

A women’s basketball alumni scrimmage will be held at 11 a.m. in Activities Center West and all former LCSC women’s basketball players are invited to play.

Two classes, both with registration fees, will be held as well during the day. The first is “Yoga on the Green,” which will be held at 10:30 a.m. at a location to be determined. Instructor Jeanette Gara-Betzold will lead a yoga class for all levels of experience. The cost is $5 per person. The second class is “Fall Container Class,” which is at 2 p.m. at Patt’s Garden Center, located at 1280 Port Drive in Clarkston. The cost is $35 per person and pre-registration is required. Class participants will plant a 14-inch peat pot with fall blooming annuals and perennials, and accessorize it with pumpkins and gourds.

The LCSC volleyball team will be in action for the second straight day as it will host Montana Tech at 2 p.m. at the Activity Center. During the match, hot dogs, sodas, and popcorn will be sold for $1 apiece.

The Native American Alumni Chapter will have a pizza party with President Fernandez at the LCSC Activity Center Conference room at 4:30-5:30 p.m.

The LCSC men’s basketball team will kick off its season at 5 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center against Northwest Indian College. There will be free admission to all Homecoming participants who register and there will be $1 soda, popcorn and hot dogs sold during the game.

Also on Oct. 22, there will be a Steam-Powered Superhero Ball at 6-9 p.m. at the LCSC Center for Arts & History, located at 415 Main St. in Lewiston. This ball will include music, dancing, costume contests, other live entertainment and more. The cost is $20 for the general public and $15 for LCSC students with valid ID cards and CAH members.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, the men’s basketball team will play Northwest Indian College again at 2 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center to wrap up Homecoming Week.
